I just went to this veterinary hospital today, assuming I’d have to pay a huge lump sum of money and be waiting for hours on end, but was thoroughly pleased and more than happy to bring my baby here! They immediately took him back (suspected urinary blockage), and from then moved us into a room. After the initial assessment they suggested bloodwork and a urinalysis, which after talking to the veterinarian, and another employee(assuming the technician), we decided to do the urinalysis then depending on the results-move forward with the blood work, purely based on cost and necessity. He ended up only needing the urinalysis as well as antibiotics, anti nausea meds, and some anti inflammatory medication- thank god! I absolutely loved how knowledgeable, personable, and gentle/caring the staff (including front desk) was towards us, and our baby. After asking if we could, she even brought me to the back to see my baby and taught me how to palpate his bladder so I can know when I need to be on the lookout pertaining to his litter habits. The whole experience we’ve had here with everyone we encountered today was very pleasant and welcoming. Yes, it was more expensive than the normal vet, but I already knew that going in. Being a 24 year old living off of her own income, I feared for the worst, but it wasn’t nearly as much money I expected to have to scrape my wallet for. Thank you, VCA vets and staff, you really shined today for us and my soul baby.

We are so thankful for the compassionate care shown during the emergency euthanasia of our sweet Chihuahua, Cookie, yesterday. The staff was attentive, gave us private time with her, and even sent us home with memory pins and wildflower seeds in her honor. Truly grateful for their kindness.

We went here for an emergency with our chihuahua. While the outcome wasnt what we wanted, this animal hospital took very good care of us. They immediately took our dog to the back for triage, when we got a room they went over the options. When we chose to put our dog to sleep, they left the room and gave us all the time we wanted to spend with her before the procedure. Afterwards they gave us even more time. They gave us nose and paw stamps, and a bottled bunch of her fur. They treated us with the upmost care and attention. Then a few days later we recieved the sweetest hand written letter from the staff at the hospital. Yes its an emergency vet so the cost is going to be more. But if I had to spend extra on the well being of my pet I would choose VCA on Calder everytime!

I brought my sweet pup here because he was suddenly unwell. I didn’t know what was wrong, but I knew from my dog’s eyes that it was serious. I rushed him here and I could see him suffering in the back seat. They took him and triaged him SO FAST, maybe 10 seconds after I arrived. They treated him for hypothermia after a stroke and he was responding well to treatment. They expected him to recover in the next day, but his heart stopped during the night and he passed away. I was devastated. He was my best friend and medical service dog. One of the few things that gives me comfort is that these people gave him a fighting chance. I got to see him while they warmed him up and he seemed to be feeling better. It’s an awful day to think about, but I try to remind myself that they at least made his last moments as comfortable as possible. I can say that I did everything I could for him. I had taken him to 2 other vets (not VCA) in the weeks before this because something seemed wrong. He was only 4 years old but had become lethargic all the time and couldn’t seem to heal a large skin infection on his head and chest. Those vets both brushed me off, saying that he’s probably just tired from playing outside and that I’m just worrying too much. It’s an awful feeling to wonder if I could have prevented this whole thing if I had just pressed them for further diagnostics or if I had taken him here. There was no question about being taken seriously here.

I would not recommend this veterinary clinic to anyone who truly cares about their pet. The lack of bedside manner was shockingly cold, dismissive, and completely devoid of compassion. When you’re trusting someone with your beloved furry baby, the absolute minimum should be empathy, and this place has none. Cleanliness also seems to be an afterthought. The facility felt unsanitary and poorly maintained, which is alarming for a medical environment. Instead of feeling reassured, I felt uneasy the entire time. Honestly, this place felt less like a veterinary clinic and more like a pet cemetery. If you’re looking for a clinic that treats animals with care, respect, and professionalism, do yourself and your pet a favor and look elsewhere.
